What are tamper resistant outlets and why are they now required?
Since 2008, the National Electric Code (NEC) requires installation of tamper resistant outlets in new homes. The reason for this is simply safety, especially safety for children. Children often put things they shouldn't into outlets and plastic covers are not a foolproof deterrent. See the infographic below more information.
